Introduction

First of all, we are so sorry for your loss. We wish you had no reason to be here. But, as we found out ourselves, we don’t get to choose our life’s path. We are not prepared in any way for such circumstances and now is the time to organize, maximize, and deliver the goodwill within your community (family, friends, neighbors, and compassionate people you don’t even know). People want to help, but don’t know what to do. Families need help, but don’t know what they need.

Why do we want to help?

We lost our six-year-old daughter, Ellie, on January 20, 2012 in a tragic accident. Everyone wanted to help, but no one really knew what to do. We were in shock and had no idea what we needed then or over the course of the next year. Our life as we knew it was over, and we needed to learn what our new life looked like. It is our passion to help families in these difficult situations.

Have you identified a Support Director?

We recommend that you identify a Support Director as soon as possible. This person should be a trusted friend or family member that can take care of details, guard the door, answer the phone, help with planning services, and coordinate for you. This person should be in tune with your desires.

Support Website Template

We all handle things differently. We have different needs and preferences. While we have developed a plan that we think meets many of the needs you will face, feel free to customize the help you will receive.

We have developed a support website template to help organize, maximize, and deliver your communities goodwill to you. Through our experience, we learned that providing a single source point of information is critical for the community to avoid communication problems and inefficient flow of information. The sooner the support website is up and running, the more useful it will be.

There are a few things that can be very helpful. For example, purchasing an easy to remember domain name (such as www.EllieNigro.com), creating a YouCaring donation page, setting up a memorial Facebook page, and signing up for a Google account if you don’t already have one. We are happy to share a sample website template with you. It can be edited and implemented in any way that you desire.

Donations

There are many unexpected costs associated with these situations. Please identify a TRUSTED family member or close friend to be the Donation Sponsor as that person should set up the account and will be the recipient of the funds which should be transferred to you. We recommend www.YouCaring.com, but there are other websites available also.

Facebook Memorial Page

Memories are precious and something you will treasure. Facebook is a great way to record memories and let your community contribute thoughts. Please identify a TRUSTED family member or close friend to be the Facebook Sponsor as that person will set up the Facebook Memorial page. At some point, you will want to take over the admin control for the account.
